Until now, the Shipping industry’s main focus has been on developing and assessing technical skills, for which the main instrument has been STCW Convention. But, technical skills are not enough to create a positive safety culture or to promote a safe and efficient work environment that reduces incidents and cultivates the well being and wellness of the seafarers and shore based employees.

Shipping, as a critical working environment, presents many challenges and among those of performing your job obligations well are those of being well with yourself and of course with the other people around you. Wellness leads to safety and mainly wellness is a precondition of safety. The tanker industry, for instance, has recognized that more focus should be placed on wellness. Specifically, TMSA 3 has assessed and recorded wellbeing as a requirement/KPI on Element 3A, Stage, Item 1.2: “Shore based provides adequate resources to ensure the wellbeing of vessel personnel”

Wellness is an active process. It is important to be proactive and learn how to provide yourself a healthy body and soul. Attention must be given to all natural options including physical activities by product of other activities like walking or cycling to work, using the stairs and generally improve muscle tone, strength and energy level.

Who should attend the workshop: Everyone who serves the Greek Maritime Cluster and is interested in adopting a healthier lifestyle towards an optimal state of holistic health and wellbeing.

Methodology: This program aims at improving every day people’s life by creating good and powerful habits. Spending most of our active life at the office we should learn how to exploit time for training, get more work done and take fewer sick days. In addition we are able to achieve mental health, providing a stress-free getaway from the daily typhoon of meetings and emails. If you are able to walk or power yourself forward by some means, do it. You don’t need a gym. Movement opportunities are everywhere.

He is a dedicated fitness professional with a passion for improving client health, wellness and quality of life. He provides high-energy training using the latest techniques in exercise science, cardio programs and strength training. He delivers fitness, weight loss and nutrition programs for youth, teens, adults and senior citizens that are fun, safe, extremely effective and tailored to individual needs and goals. Dennis is a body & mind transformation specialist adept in helping diverse populations achieve their fitness, weight loss and conditioning goals faster than they ever thought possible.
